i agree. but i also think we are the victims of good photography. i wonder how awesome my house would look if i had a skilled photographer come over and snap some candid photos.

There is something to the way they live and arrange their possessions!
It doesn't come off contrived, just naturally. How do they do that. I think the spaces they inhabit have such soul.
