Grown Up Hideout

The boys are on spring break. Which means that I am perpetually responding to a chorus of,
"I'm bored." Wouldn't it be nice to have a grown up hideout like the one above. Just to catch your breath. For a minute (or an hour).

Tell me it's not just me.

Photographer Fixation: Costas Picadas

Between a surly computer and general busy-ness, my posts have been pretty sparse. So here's an end-of-the-year offering to make up for the blogger blahs. I love all the boho, tropical goodness captured by photographer Costas Picadas. Who's up for a getaway? The only thing missing...a mojito and a warm ocean breeze.

Happy Thursday!

Daily Pretty

Or perhaps, Daily Handsome would make for a better description. Just goes to show that neutral doesn't equate with boring. Difficult to admit for a die-hard color fan like me.

Gone Fishing

A fishing shack in the Catskills gets a makeover. It went from a 1940s wood paneled cabin, to a light and bright nod to midcentury minimalist design. The owner, head of her own public relations firm, says she favors "style and function over pedigree." I think she forgot to mention comfort and whimsy...yes, that is a Balinese daybed beckoning seductively from the lawn.

Raji RM & Associates

Beautiful work from D.C. design firm Raji RM & Associates. I for one am especially enamored with all of the fabulous art.

p.s.- note to designers, please, please give us larger images...especially when your work is this good.

Daily Pretties

Eat, sleep, hang. Can you tell I'm feeling lazy today? It's dreary, rainy, and cold...a perfect day to do not much of anything at all. So if it was up to me, I'd kick back in my imaginary house (above) and alternate between the three aforementioned activities. You like my place, non?

Me, in a nutshell.

So I have been sweating over Alek's "What's Your Style in one Picture," summer challenge, well, all summer long in fact. And seeing as we are about to embark on the month of October, I thought it was finally time to commit. You see, I have issues committing to just one beautiful space when there are so many amazing rooms to choose from out in the blogosphere and beyond. But early this morning I came across this luscious room and it just spoke to me.

First, the color. That to die for "bowler blue." So beautiful, so rich, so incredibly warm and inviting. Especially at this time of year. I was sold! And then an absolute prerequisite of mine for a favorite room, bookcases. And lots of them. And of course, a cozy spot to rest one's tired bum and enjoy said books, a window seat with a city view.

Turning to the rest of the space. Say hello to my caramel-hued squishy friends, two lovely leather chairs. Velvet sofa-check. Gorgeous glass drum side table for my coffee (or evening adult beverage)-check. And that rug makes me swoony all over. It so beautifully ties the room together in one perfect bow. Just like a perfectly wrapped package that you can't bare to rip open because it's so darn lovely on the outside. Sometimes, the ubiquitous hide rug can be jarring and the very first thing your eye is drawn to in a room. But here, it blends beautifully with that gorgeous color. It's like a warm, drawn out hug. Yum!

Now to complete my fantasy, I imagine there is an incredible beamed ceiling up above, a spectacular and perhaps, a bit crumbly, old brick wall within sight, a wall of amazing steel-encased windows, and a faded, well worn wide plank floor underfoot. So there you have it, my style in one picture. At least for now...

{this amazing space was spyed on the equally wonderful blog Eye Spy, and does Susie ever have an eye for glorious interiors}
