Designer AND Family Friendly

This beautiful home has it all. Pets. Check. Kids. Check. Designer flair. Double check. Just goes to show that creating a warm, inviting, family-friendly home with boatloads of style is in no way mutually exclusive. All of this should come as no surprise as this lovely place is inhabited by one half of the talented team behind AND GEORGE. This mother and daughter duo are not only shopkeepers, but have a terrific blog. Be sure to pay them a visit and prepare to be inspired. AND GEORGE is synonymous with Southern charm.

Object on a Stick

A couple of months ago, the ever so adorable Susie Q with her chi chi blonde pixie cut, wrote a post entitled "object on a stick" that grabbed my attention. You see, I too seem to gravitate towards anything mounted oh-so museum-like, especially if it is a found object. Preferably with numerous signs of age and use. I love the idea of elevating the everyday to something special. Something that screams "look at me!" Literally a way of taking trash to treasure.
So I promised Susie a few shots of my tiny collection of objects mounted on a stick. The first is a lovely piece of driftwood, all nubby and perfectly aged to that indescribable shade of gray that I so adore. This one was discovered in a local antique/junk shop, way up high and out of reach on top of an old armoire. It said, "take me home." And I replied, "but of course!" My husband, as usual, sighed, but dutifully carried it home. (he's the best, you know)
The second object is what I believe to be a machine part of some sort, perhaps a foundry wheel. The shop had a handful of these from the same consigner and being the OCD nut that I am I probably spent an hour lovingly running my fingers across and around all the grooves and crevices, trying to decide which one would come home with me. The winner, again, was dutifully escorted home by my ever kind better half. (he's the best, you know)
So there they are, Susie, my things on a stick!
Anyone else have a "thing" for objects on a stick? Got any of your own? I'd love to see them!
By the way, if driftwood is your "thing," check out this great post by the lovely Lauren over at purestylehome.
{images are mine, sorry for the lack of light, but these treasure reside in our basement, hence the color distortion}
