Help Me Out Design Peeps

So I need your help friends, you smart and resourceful brainiacs. OK, no more buttering up. I went out on a mission today to reunite myself with the chairs above. I was sure that we had been separated at birth, but alas, it was not meant to be. I was head over heels for them when I spotted them on craigslist, but they showed signs of a little too much love in person. Nonetheless, if someone was willing to resuscitate them I think they could look amazing. So if you're a local and are interested in this twosome, shoot me an email and I'll introduce you, tout de suite.
Now on to my plea for help. After passing up the chairs, I spotted the rug above. And I fell for it. Hard. It's a good bit more moolah than I would like to pay, but it's pulling at my heartstrings. I have never seen one quite like it. It is advertised as vintage and I think it is. The condition is slightly worn, but still in very good shape. The photos do not do justice to the colors. They are bright and beautiful. The design is raised all over, sort of crewel-like and it appears to be wool. The genius, La Lampshade, suggested it may be needlepointed by hand, and I would have to agree. Now, has anyone seen anything like it before? Know where I can do some comparison shopping perhaps? Any information would be greatly appreciated. I know one of you design addicts can hook me up with some details. So come on now, spill the beans!

Not a clue, doll. I know nothing at all about rugs. Wish I could help.

its a gorgeous rug and my guess is that they are asking a pretty penny or else why do the comparison shopping. is there a manufacturer's tag on it? you could find a lot of info that way. otherwise a google image search on needlepoint rugs and vintage or antique might help you.
it is really unique and pretty. not knowing how much it is i can't really say whether or not this is a good purchase.

It is a needlepoint rug and is likely by hand. If it has an odd size (like 7'10" x 10'6"-something off) then that's a good sign of it being by hand. Also, it would probably not have a tag. I have two handmade needlepoint rugs that are around 8x10. They are raised throughout as well. Your rug has a larger pattern and bright colors, but their make looks very similar. I paid around $850 for each and purchased them through a salvage shop.

All in all, the colors on your rug are vibrant and the print is fun – I’d buy it. However, the brown section of the rug will be hard to vacuum. On my rugs the lower/non raised sections get crummier because pieces wiggle, fall, and find their way off the raised sections. Your pattern is pretty intricate so keep in mind to really get it clean; you’ll have to handvac it. That’s what I do.

P.S. I found you through PureStyleHome today.

I just spent 1/2 an hour on Ebay trying to come up with something similar. Zip, nada. But it makes sense what the Lovely LifeStyle says. The rug is vibrant and fun. Keep it! Maybe you can negotiate the price (say you plug them on your fab blog! And people listen to you!!!!)?

Happy rest of the week! ox Mon

Hello Lovelylifestyle! You've come to my rescue! Yes, no tag, and although I did not measure it, it did appear to have an odd size. Maybe 4 x 5(ish). Thank you so much for all of that wonderful information. I don't know if I will go back and get it, it was $275, which sounds like a rather good deal, but I'm not in the market for a rug. But I am smitten with it.

Welcome and thanks for visiting!!

Really Monika, people listen to me? Ha, ha, ha! :0) Thanks Monika, you're the sweetest. And thanks for investigating for me. I'm still debating...will keep you guys in the loop if I decide to splurge.

Nelya, I love it! I have a very small needlepoint rug and I don't put it on the floor. It's tossed over the back of a chair so that I can see it and love it -- but no big dogs or little children destroy it.

Those chairs were amazing....if they were cheap enough you could re-sling them in leather of your choice.

Pass those chairs on to me, little momma!

Oh, and the rug is cute. Maybe for your office?
