Come on in 2009...

{aaaaahhhhh}
{ooooohhhhhh}{watching the "big apple" fall for the first time} {just remembered: as soon as it was over he exclaimed, "Again!"}

This time last year at Auntie L's house. Seems like we just welcomed in 2008 and now here we go again! Looking forward to many new beginnings this coming new year and can not wait to meet the three precious additions to our family scheduled to arrive in 2009! Wishing a healthy, joyous, wondrous New Year to all!Wednesday, December 24, 2008
Art Appreciation

Not your Nana's kinda cross-stitch. This is totally the type of craft I could get behind. Granted, these are not for every one's sense of humor, but I love them! The site has a far better selection of naughty choices, these are of the kinder, gentler variety. I like art that gets to the point!{cross-stitch kits via subversive cross-stitch}

Brilliant! {socket deer}
Boo hoo, I can't find these sold online...must keep looking...who are the brilliant beings that come up with these insanely fabulous ideas!?{via darling dexter}
Strange but true
I'm sitting here sniffing a pencil, well a smencil to be exact. Mine is bubblegum scented and it's like a whiff of nostalgia slapping me in the face. You know that first glorious wave of bubblegum-y-ness you get when you unwrap that juicy block of Bazooka. Yep, this is what my smencil smells like. And they are eco-friendly to boot, made of recycled newspapers, they say the smell is guaranteed for two years. Will report back in 730 days.{image via see jane work}

Men {second installment}
Friday night found us at home, doing a whole lot of nothin', which is a rare occurrence around these parts. I walked into the keeping room to find all four of my men (boys) simultaneously glued to the television. Giada was on and oh yeah, she has THAT kind of affect on them.All the sudden the first born announced that we should make pizza. So off we went, he an I, to the grocery store for ingredients. When we returned the Mister had the grill all fired up and on went our dough. Everyone decided on their own toppings and it was at this point that the first born said he wanted "fresh basil and kalamata olives" on his. Well you could have shot me on the spot! This kid subsists off of peanut butter and has for as long as I can remember.
But he ate that pizza with such fervor, I thought he was going to inhale it. Every last bite, every last olive and basil leaf consumed. I guess it's no accident that Giada is filmed from the waist up with numerous close-ups of her, ahem, voluptuous decolletage (read: boobies, as my 3 year old would say)! Men, no matter what age, have the same appetite! ;0)

MEN
As I was writing the last post, I was summoned by my partially clothed 3-year-old to the kitchen. (strangely he was wearing only a shirt and socks, i.e. no undies) As I enter the kitchen I find him sitting at the kitchen table in this state of half dress, while his father is peeling off the wrapper from an ice cream sandwich. Key item to note, it is now 8:32 PM! So, naturally I ask these two men in my life why the 3-year-old is having ice cream NOW? Well, he, the mini naked god of after hours ice cream sandwiches, informs me with the gravest expression of seriousness a 3-year-old can muster, "me no eat ice cream all day mama." Duh! What was I thinking? After all, he had me at the naked booty, it was only down hill from there. Lesson learned: I don't stand a chance around here. (I won't even comment on what the Mister was thinking, partially clothed after hours trysts with ice cream are the norm in his world)

Hee Hee

I was talking with a neighbor/friend today and the subject of the holidays came up. We are of the Jewish persuasion around here, so obviously we don't celebrate Christmas, but I presumed that with so many signs of Christmas all around, my boys were well aware of the story behind it all. Little did I realize just how naive my kiddos are. So I was recounting this story to my friend and I ended up in tears, tears of laughter that is, at the hilarity of it all.
This time last year the boys were invited to a little party in honor of a newly published children's book. The party was held at the home of a neighbor down the street. As we arrived the then 6-year-old stopped in his tracks and proclaimed, "Mom, I didn't know the triplets were Jewish." I looked at him a bit confused and stated, "I don't think they are S, why do you think they are Jewish?" The second born proceeds to look down at the vintage nativity scene arranged in the front yard and then up at the star-shaped lights strung across the front porch, and then proclaims, "look it's baby Moses in the grass and they have the Star of David hanging on their porch." I don't know if I have ever laughed so hard, in fact, I'm giggling as I type this now. Ignorance is bliss?

I Want This-badly
"Generally speaking cows are more comfy in the barn than at the table, but Calf & Half is a perfect house guest. She’s always in a good mooooooooood, as you will be when you pour from this playful little pitcher. A gentle reminder of where our cream really comes from, Calf & Half is hand-crafted from double-walled glass and individually gift boxed. It's udderly irresistible. "...and we can all have one for a mere $21.00...

Thinking out loud
Lest I get too excited about my grown-up night out, my boys are always there to bring me back to earth. {Context} I was just telling the mister about the life of a blogger whose blog I follow daily. She just happens to live, year round, in one of our favorite vacation spots, AND she is an interior designer with a blossoming business. As I uttered the words, "someday that would be a nice life to have," along zips by second-born and pronounces, without so much as an after thought-
Second born: "Mom, I'm going to do number two!"
Mom: "of course you are, call me when you're done"
Oh well, I must not forget my place in this world, I wonder where a*s-wiper goes on a resume, is that even a job qualification?

Overheard (last night)
Second born to first born: "D, what does expensive mean?"
First born to second born: "S, it means you're not going to get it."
Aaah, from the mouths of babes, I knew these kids had smarts, but who knew they were so wise. (I'm all smiles inside)
