Mad for Mads

This morning I'm simply mad for the photography of Mads Mogensen. Perhaps I'm still on my girly kick from yesterday, but I'm especially lovin' the intense raspberry hues in the first and last shots. Here's to a great weekend and to looking at the world through rose colored glasses!

Girly

These images are from the home of Jane Whitfield, Englishwoman living in the French countryside and right-hand-woman to little known fashion darling Marc Jacobs (wink, wink). Typically, I am not a girly, girl when it comes to interiors. I suppose I could point the blame at the four men I live with, but truthfully I've just never been all that "in to" frills and lace and dainty, delicate furnishings. But, this home is just so pretty I simply could not resist.
Perhaps it's the balance of weathered wood and soft greys and beautiful light that draws me in. And of course, the romantic setting doesn't hurt. I just really like these lovely rooms.
Now that being said, I must admit that my favorite room is the very last shot. Not so girly, but come on- that hunky solid-as-can-be, be-still-my-throbbing-heart Astier de Villatte table of my dreams, malachite-hued Herman Miller chairs and simple, earthy concrete floor. This one is a sure fire winner in my book. And the chairs people, well the couple found those in a rubbish pile awaiting trash pick-up! Hello! Let me just say, if any of you have a set of mid-century beauties to dispose of, please, please I implore you, call me. Do. Not. put them out on the curb unless they are awaiting my immediate pick up.

My current view. Not bad for a Wednesday evening in July. And the
children, one to my right in the foreground and the two to the left in
the water, their view is of a television. That's right, I said a T.V.
Which is not visible because it is hidden in the jasmine covering the
porch to my left. Hence their heads all turned in that direction.
You see, their grandfather is of the opinion that the swim experience
is further enhanced by Spongebob making crabby patties in the
background. Sheesh, when I was a kid summers were nothing like this.
You know, I'm just sayin'.

(ha, I just realized the irony of all of the above is that I currently
have my butt parked on a chaise lounge, outside by the pool, as I
leisurely "type" away on my iPhone and post on my blog! It's like
magic really, REALLY!)

In the Kitchen

Be it shiny and new or rustic and patinated these kitchens all have their own distinct, and dare I say delicious, flavor. My favorites combine sleek modern functionality peppered with a bit of old world, such as a beautifully hewn wooden floor, a time-worn industrial light fixture, a vintage poster, a delightfully re-purposed cabinet, or hand-painted tiles from another time and place. All these seemingly disparate elements come together to make one tasty dish, don't you think?
